West Baton Rouge Parish, LA (March 4, 2026) — A 51-year-old Albany man died early on Tuesday morning, March 3, after his box truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer on Interstate 10 East near milepost 147. The crash occurred around 4 a.m. in West Baton Rouge Parish.
State police said Phillip Scott was driving eastbound when traffic was stopped due to construction. For reasons still under investigation, Scott’s truck struck the back of a tractor-trailer. Scott suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in Scott’s truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured. Authorities said impairment is not suspected, but routine toxicology tests will be conducted.
The crash temporarily closed Interstate 10 East past Grosse Tete, but all lanes have since reopened.
Officials continue to investigate the crash, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
