Vinton I-10 Eastbound Closed Between Exits 7 And 8 After Early-Morning Crash

Vinton I-10 Eastbound Closed Between Exits 7 And 8 After Early-Morning Crash

Vinton, Louisiana – An early-morning crash has shut down Interstate 10 eastbound near Vinton on Thursday, forcing all traffic onto an alternate route, according to information released by the Vinton Police Department.

The closure began around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18. Police reported that I-10 eastbound is closed between Exit 7 and Exit 8 due to a crash in the area. All eastbound traffic is being detoured onto Highway 90. Officials did not provide an estimated time for the interstate to reopen.

Drivers traveling through the Vinton area should be prepared for delays and possible congestion along Highway 90, which is serving as the main detour route. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time.

At the time this was published, no additional details about the number of vehicles involved, possible injuries, or the cause of the incident have been released. Authorities have also not indicated whether hazardous materials, commercial vehicles, or other complicating factors are involved in the crash.

Because this closure affects a key eastbound route through Southwest Louisiana, the impact may extend beyond local Vinton traffic, especially for commuters and commercial drivers heading toward Lake Charles and points farther east. Travelers may want to check navigation apps or local traffic updates before entering the area.

The Vinton Police Department has not provided a projected reopening time for I-10 eastbound between Exit 7 and Exit 8. The interstate is expected to remain closed until the crash scene is cleared and the roadway is considered safe for travel.
