Westlake, LA (March 8, 2026) – A crash involving a car hauler caused major disruptions on Friday night, March 6, on the Calcasieu River Bridge in Westlake. The accident was reported around 10:51 p.m. and led to the closure of all bridge lanes for several hours.
Emergency units responded after reports of a two-vehicle collision on the bridge. During the crash, an 18-wheeler transporting multiple vehicles overturned, sending debris across the roadway and off the bridge.
Diesel fuel from the overturned truck began leaking and later caught fire. Crews worked at the scene to control the fire and address the hazardous conditions while the bridge remained closed to traffic.
One person involved in the crash was taken to a hospital for treatment. Officials have not released information about the person’s condition.
Debris from the wreckage fell from the bridge following the crash, though officials confirmed that no vehicles went over the edge. The collision also caused significant damage to the bridge before crews could clear the roadway.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
